Why Social Media?

Because everything is about me!  That is what I love most about the modern world!  Instead of conforming myself to the world around me, technology allows me to remake the world in my image.  What is truth?  Whatever I feel is true.  What is beautiful or good?  Whatever I happen to subjectively enjoy at any given moment.  There is no absolute, there is only me.

That is why I am on twetter.  I don’t have to seek truth, I can pick news sources that confirm what I already think.  And instead of having to interact with people that are different than me, I can enter a digital world that allows me to exclude any and every one that I choose!

If I feel this way, why go on the World Wide Web?  So what if everyone is connecting on the “internets”?  If I think it is dehumanizing, why not connect exclusively in physical space?
As this whole digital fad seems to be sticking around, I recognized that I have to live with this reality in mind.  People are connecting more and more electronically and if I want to connect with people, I will have to too.  I can’t stomach fakebook and this particular internet location turns out to be the most popular.  So instead of impotently raging against the machine, I have decided to try to reappropriate its mechanisms for more noble ends.  After all, how do you defeat a beast?  You climb into its belly and cut your way out.  (This is a sophisticated way of justifying the fact that I have in fact SOLD OUT).

All kidding aside, I am ready to connect in deep, significant, and lasting ways 140 characters at a time!
